ISLAMABAD – President Mamnoon Hussain has pardoned nearly half a dozenpersonnel of Pakistan Rangers, who had been sentenced to life imprisonmentover their involvement in the killing of a youth inside a public park inKarachi’s Clifton area seven years ago.
Media reports suggest the personnel received the pardon in the exercise ofpresident’s powers under Article 45 of the Constitution. The men had beensentenced to life imprisonment.
The convicts may be freed any time from Karachi’s Central Jail, accordingto an official of the Home Department.
The Rangers personnel had killed Sarfaraz Shah, 22, considering him arobber out to deprive people in the park of their belongings in June 2011.
