In Islamabad, the National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP) has issued a final warning regarding vehicles lacking M-Tags and set a deadline for imposing a ban, as reported by ARY News on Monday.
Travelers have been cautioned to obtain the mandatory M-Tags for their vehicles promptly; otherwise, they may be prohibited from accessing the motorways. The Motorway Police has established a deadline, instructing car owners to acquire their M-Tags by December 31.
Car owners failing to comply will not be allowed to enter the motorways from January 1, 2024, and may also face fines. This regulation applies to all motorways, including Islamabad-Peshawar M-1, Lahore-Abdul Hakeem M-3, Pindi Bhattian-Multan M-4, Multan-Sukkur M-5, Hakla-Dera Ismail Khan M-14, and Hasan Abdal-Mansehra Expressway E-35.
Notably, around 150,000 vehicles pass through the Islamabad-Lahore M-2 Motorway daily. Vehicles equipped with M-Tags can conveniently pass through checkpoints and avoid traffic congestion.
Previously, M-Tags were issued based on computerized national identity cards (CNICs). However, travelers are now required to submit their vehicle registration smart card. Travelers can recharge their M-Tags through the One Network App or M-Tag Point.
