ISLAMABAD: Security forces conducted multiple intelligence-based operationsin Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, resulting in the elimination of nineterrorists belonging to the Fitna al Khawarij group, the Inter-ServicesPublic Relations (ISPR) said on Friday.
According to the military’s media wing, the operations were carried out inthree different districts of the province where the presence of terroristelements had been reported through credible intelligence inputs. Theengagements took place over the past twenty-four hours and demonstrated thecontinued resolve of the armed forces to eradicate the menace of terrorismfrom Pakistani soil.
In the first operation conducted in the general area of Tirah Valley inKhyber district, five terrorists were killed during an intense exchange offire after security forces effectively engaged their location. The slainindividuals were actively involved in numerous terrorist activities againstsecurity personnel and innocent civilians.
A separate operation in the Buner district led to the neutralisation of twomore terrorists who were planning to carry out attacks on securitycheckpoints and public gatherings. The forces recovered weapons, ammunitionand explosives from their possession, preventing what could have been amajor incident.
In the third engagement in the North Waziristan district, two high-valuetargets of the outlawed Fitna al Khawarij were killed. These individualshad been on the radar of law enforcement agencies for their directinvolvement in orchestrating attacks on military convoys and facilitatingthe movement of weapons across the border areas.
The ISPR statement emphasised that sanitisation operations are beingconducted to eliminate any remaining terrorists in the affected areas andto ensure that local populations can live without fear of violence. Suchoperations, it added, are part of the ongoing national effort to completelyuproot terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
Local administration officials confirmed that the areas have been cordonedoff and additional troops have been deployed to maintain law and order. Thesuccessful operations have been welcomed by residents who have longsuffered from the presence of militant elements in the region.
