NEW DELHI – Indian Premier League IPL 2020 faces a setback from Board ofControl of Cricket in India.
The Indian Premier League has reportedly decided to cancel openingceremonies from the next season, calling them a ‘waste of money’.
The Bollywood-style extravaganza, which has reportedly cost the board closeto Rs 30 crore in the past, will not longer take place from IPL 2020, as itwas decided by the IPL governing council meeting on Monday, the IndianExpress reported.
A BCCI official told the newspaper: “The opening ceremonies are a waste ofmoney. The cricket fans don’t seem to be interested, and the performershave to be paid a lot.”
The opening ceremonies have taken place before the start of the cricketleague in every season since 2008, except for last year, when the fundswere used to aide the families of soldiers who lost their lives in Pulwamaterror attacks.
In the past, performers like Katy Perry, Akon, Pit Bull, Salman Khan,Katrina Kaif among many others have performed at the opening ceremony ofthe tournament.
