President Arif Alvi is currently serving his five-year term, which is setto end on September 9th. According to Article 44(1) of the constitution,the President will continue to hold office for the period of five yearsfrom the date of taking the oath of office, and after the term ends, hewill remain in office until their successor is elected.
After the completion of his term, President Alvi can continue to performhis duties in office until a new President is elected.
The constitution explicitly allows this until the new President is chosen.Whether President Alvi chooses to step down or continue in office after histerm has ended will depend on his decision, which he has not yet publiclyannounced.
