Imran Khan s lawyer requests IHC to transfer the former PM to Adiala Jail

Sher Afzal Marwat, the lawyer representing former Prime Minister ImranKhan, made a plea before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday. Herequested the court to transfer Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairmanImran Khan from Attock jail to Adiala jail due to concerns regarding theunsatisfactory conditions prevailing at Attock jail.

During the hearing, Marwat highlighted the dire situation at Attock jailwhere Imran Khan is currently incarcerated. He emphasized the lack of basicamenities and the overall poor conditions within the prison.

Marwat informed the court of the presence of a pest infestation in thearea where Imran Khan is being detained. Additionally, he pointed out thatthe cell housing Khan lacks a proper roof. Furthermore, Marwat argued thatAttock jail does not provide the necessary B-class facility required forhis client’s status.

Contrary to the officials’ claims that Imran Khan’s placement in Attockjail is due to security concerns, Marwat contested, stating that Adialajail is a more secure option. He stressed their right to access a B-classfacility for Imran Khan and urged the court to consider relocating theformer prime minister to the Rawalpindi facility.

Imran Khan had received a five-year prison sentence after being convictedin the Toshakhana case the previous month. Despite the IHC’s decision tosuspend his sentence on September 2, Imran Khan remains in custody due tohis rearrest on August 19 in the “Cipher case.” The PTI has consistentlyadvocated for “A-Class” facilities for their chairman and has filedpetitions with the IHC on this matter, arguing that Imran Khan’s social andpolitical status, education, and accustomed living standards entitle him tosuch privileges under Pakistan Prison Rules.
