Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Immigration department has undergone atechnological transformation at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi.This initiative aims to enhance border security and counter the illicit useof counterfeit visas, particularly concerning human trafficking.
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) has generously provided the FIAImmigration with 17 state-of-the-art pieces of equipment, includingMagnifiers, Ultraviolet Radiation Lights, and Security Laminate Verifiers.
These advanced tools empower FIA immigration officers to identifyfraudulent passports and visas effectively, thereby bolstering thescreening process for travelers and ensuring greater security at theairport. Muhammad Rashid Bhatti, the Assistant Director of FIA Immigration,expressed heartfelt appreciation for this valuable equipment, emphasizingits pivotal role in fortifying border security and combating unlawfulactivities within the airport’s confines.
Prior to this significant development, the Pakistan Civil AviationAuthority (PCAA) made the decision to introduce Electronic gates (E-gates)at airports throughout the country. As part of this initiative, the PCAAhas embarked on the first phase of the E-gate project at three majorinternational airports: Islamabad, Allama Iqbal, and Jinnah InternationalAirport. The project is being supervised by the Aviation Secretary and theDirector-General of the Civil Aviation Authority (DGCAA).
It is worth noting that multiple national institutions, including theNational Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), the FederalInvestigation Agency (FIA) passports division, and the FIA immigrationdepartment, have contributed their insights and recommendations towards thesuccessful implementation of the E-gate project, underscoring thecollaborative effort to enhance airport security and immigration processesin Pakistan.
