ISLAMABAD/DHAKA — August 2025 — Bangladesh has expressed keen interest in importing coal and limestone from Pakistan to meet its expanding industrial and energy needs, according to a statement released by Pakistan’s Ministry of Commerce following recent high-level discussions.
During a meeting between Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Iqbal Hussain Khan, both parties explored deeper bilateral cooperation in critical sectors such as energy, logistics, and industrial raw materials. The Bangladeshi side emphasized the urgent need for Pakistani coal and Sindh limestone to support its power generation plants and soda ash production facilities.
Representatives from Bangladesh also highlighted their positive interactions with Pakistan’s industrial chambers during recent visits to country’s production hubs. Discussions touched on opportunities for expanding agricultural trade—particularly allowing exports of pineapples from Bangladesh and a potential resumption of mango exports from Pakistan pending technical approvals. Other areas of mutual interest included textiles, high-quality mineral exports, and Halal-certified meat. Both sides agreed to address logistical bottlenecks and ease business visa procedures to streamline trade flows.
Echoing the sentiment, Minister Jam Kamal remarked, “Through focused collaboration in energy, logistics, and food security, Pakistan and Bangladesh can develop a transformative economic partnership that benefits our entire region.” The discussions concluded with a shared commitment to establish sector-specific business linkages and improve trade mechanisms in the coming months.
