The Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), MajorGeneral Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has categorically dismissed widespreadrumours circulating on social media regarding Chief of Army Staff (COAS)General Syed Asim Munir being considered for the post of President ofPakistan.
Speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday, DG ISPR termed suchspeculations as “completely baseless and misleading,” urging the public andmedia outlets to avoid spreading unverified information that could fuelpolitical uncertainty.
“There is no truth to the claims that General Asim Munir is being appointedas the next president,” the army spokesperson stated firmly. “The PakistanArmy remains committed to its constitutional role and has no involvement inpolitical manoeuvring or transitions of power.”
Rumours had intensified on social media platforms following reportssuggesting that senior political stakeholders were considering nominatingGeneral Munir for the presidency in an attempt to stabilise the countryamid ongoing political and economic crises.
However, DG ISPR clarified that General Asim Munir remains fully focused onhis responsibilities as Army Chief and is committed to strengthening theinstitution’s professional capabilities, ensuring national security, andsupporting democratic continuity within constitutional boundaries.
He further reiterated the army’s apolitical stance, emphasizing that “allinstitutions must work within their constitutional limits for the sake ofnational stability.”
The clarification comes as Pakistan prepares for key political transitionsand as public discourse continues to swirl around the future role of themilitary in national governance. Analysts view the ISPR’s timely statementas an attempt to dispel ambiguity and restore confidence in the military’sstated non-interventionist posture.
