WASHINGTON – United States State Department official response surface overIndian move on Occupied Kashmir which has sparked fears of escalation inthe region between India and Pakistan.
The United States is “closely following the events in the state of Jammuand Kashmir”, its Department of State said in a statement issued lateMonday.
Reacting to the events unfolding in occupied Kashmir, the US StateDepartment said: “We take note of India’s announcement revising theconstitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir and India’s plan to split thestate into two union territories.
“We note that the Indian government has described these actions as strictlyan internal matter. We are concerned about reports of detentions and urgerespect for individual rights and discussion with those in affectedcommunities,” the statement added.
In addition, the State Department further called for all stakeholders tomaintain peace.
“We call on all parties to maintain peace and stability along the Line ofControl,” its statement read.
