Supreme Court finalises the draft affidavit for nomination papers

ISLAMABAD – A five-member Larger Bench of the Supreme Court headed by ChiefJustice Mian Saqib Nisar has declared the submission of an affidavitcontaining personal information along with nomination papers mandatory forthe candidates.

Hearing a case pertaining to nomination forms in Islamabad today, the Benchdirected the ECP to prepare the specimen of the affidavit and presentbefore the court.

The court said that the existing nomination papers will stay in place andthe affidavit to be submitted by the candidates will carry the additionalinformation.

The Chief Justice once again made it clear that the general elections willnot be delayed and these will be held as per the schedule.

Supreme Court has approved the affidavit specimen prepared by ElectionCommission of Pakistan to be submitted by candidates along with nominationpapers.

The court said the existing nomination papers will stay in place and theaffidavit to be submitted by the candidates will carry the additionalinformation.

Last date of submitting the affidavit is 11th of this month. The draft ofthe affidavit has been put up by the Election Commission on its officialwebsite and communicated to all the Returning Officers.

Such Affidavit would also be publicized by Election Commission of Pakistanin the media.

Spokesperson of Election Commission said nomination papers of a candidatewill be rejected if he fails to submit the Affidavit within due date.
