NEW DELHI – Afghanistan condemned the recent terrorist attack onjournalists calling it a way to “muzzle” the press. Afghanistan’sambassador to India Shaida Abdali attended an event on Friday jointlyorganised by SAWM (South Asian Women in Media) and FCC (ForeignCorrespondents’ Club) to pay homage to the journalists who were killed inKabul on April 30.
While the Islamic State (IS/ISIS/Daesh) claimed responsibility for theattack, the Afghan envoy believed there was more to the attack. Hinting atPakistani hand in the attack he said, “ISIS has claimed it but I reallydoubt it.
We know that terrorism in Afghanistan as it is showcased and displayed hasits roots across the border. We hope that we will all together endterrorism that is being supported so systematically.”
The Ministry of External Affairs, on its part, was represented by DirectorPAI (Pakistan-Afghanistan-Iran Desk) Vishwesh Negi, who paid homage to thedead and expressed solidarity with Afghanistan in the fight againstextremist violence.
“The incident shocked and suprised us all. And, international community &India will work with Afghanistan & hopes for peaceful resolution,” he said.
Afghan administration is carrying out investigations in the matter.
