NAROWAL: Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal bone was fractured in anassassination attempt in Narowal today.

He was injured during an assassination attempt at a corner meeting in hisconstituency Narowal here on Sunday.

The assailant, Abid Hussain, shot at the interior minister from a distanceof 15 yards as the latter entered his vehicle to leave the rally ground intehsil Kanjrur, confirmed DPO Imran Kishwar.

An initial report issued by the police said Iqbal’s bone was fracturedafter he received a bullet in his right shoulder.

Workers of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N), standing near theassailant, tackled the man after he opened fire at Iqbal, said PunjabGovernment Spokesperson Malik Ahmed Khan. He further said thesuspect wasstopped from firing asecond shot.

A 30-bore pistol was recovered from the arrested suspect, aged between20-22 years, confirmed DPO Kishwar. Abid is reportedly a resident ofNarowal.
