Ishaq Dar urges ADB to do more for Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: (APP) Minister for Finance Muhammad Ishaq Dar on Thursday urged the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to consider the huge development needs of Pakistan.

He said the Bank might consider enhancing the financial resource allocation for Pakistan especially under Energy Sector Reform Program (Sub Program III) and Public Sector Reforms Program.

In a meeting with President ADB Takehiko Nakao on the sidelines of ADB’s annual Board of Governors meeting in Frankfurt, Finance Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar underscored the high value of Pakistan placed on its partnership with ADB.

He appreciated ADB’s support for providing US $400 million under Sustainable Energy Sector Reform Program, said a message received here.

He also appreciated the role of ADB in enhancing regional connectivity and expressed that he was looking forward to hosting the CAREC’s Ministerial meeting in Islamabad in October, 2016.

The Minister felicitated President Nakao for his dynamic and able leadership and expressed Pakistan’s support for his continuation as President of ADB.

President Nakao thanked the Minister for his support and expressed that Pakistan remains as one of the important countries for ADB to enhance its development assistance.

He said that he was looking forward to his visit and participation in the CAREC Ministerial meeting in October, 2016.

Tariq Bajwa, Secretary Economic Affairs Division (EAD) and other members of Pakistan’s delegation also attended the meeting.
