Israel air strikes Gaza strip post

JERUSALEM: Israel targeted a Hamas position in the Gaza strip in reaction to a ‘projectile’ fired from across the border near the ceasefire zone according to the Israeli army.

An army statement said that a ‘projectile’ fired from Gaza landed in an open area in Israel, causing no harm.

In response, an Israeli tank targeted a Hamas post in the northern Gaza strip.

A source from Hamas stated that two posts were hit but no casualties were reported.

The last rocket from Gaza into Israel was fired in October.

After the devastating conflict of 2014, Israel and Hamas have observed a brittle ceasefire along the largely closed border area.

Missiles and rockets are occasionally fired at Israel but are often blamed on other Islamist groups inside impoverished Gaza.

The Israeli army usually reacts by striking Hamas positions, which it holds responsible for the territory.
