An anti-terrorism court convened on Tuesday to address the case involving the murder of local journalist Jan Muhammad Mahar. During the proceedings, the court approved a seven-day extension of the physical remand for the accused individuals. These suspects, who were apprehended in connection with the case, were presented before the court following the expiration of their previous remand period.

The court's decision to grant this extension followed a request from the police, who sought additional time to further question the detainees.

Jan Muhammad Mahar, a senior journalist serving as the Sukkur bureau chief for a local television network, tragically lost his life on August 13 when unidentified assailants ambushed him. The attackers, riding a motorcycle, unleashed a hail of bullets at Mahar while he was inside his vehicle, moments after leaving his office at 9:00 am in Sukkur.

To intensify efforts in solving this high-profile murder case, Inspector General Sindh Police took the initiative to establish a special investigative committee. This committee, led by DIG Traffic Tanveer Odho, consists of five seasoned officers, including SSP Sukkur Sanghar Malik, SSP Khairpur Rohail Khoso, SDPO Gambat Nauman Zafar, and SP CTD Sukkur Abdul Qayyum.

This expert team has been entrusted with the crucial task of uncovering the intricate details surrounding the incident and ensuring that the culprits are brought to justice.
