The Islamabad High Court has postponed the hearing of a petition filed by former Prime Minister and PTI chief's wife, Bushra Bibi, seeking enhanced security for her husband while in Adiala Jail until next week.
IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq presided over the hearing. Bushra Bibi's attorney, Latif Khosa, requested the court's permission for her to provide her husband with homemade meals while in jail. He explained that the PTI chief was held in a cell that made it challenging for him to offer his prayers.
Khosa mentioned the historical precedent of former presidents and prime ministers being imprisoned in Adiala or Attock Jail after their tenures. The IHC chief justice assured that he would take every possible action, including issuing a court order, to address the matter.
The hearing was adjourned until the following week as notices were issued to concerned parties. Imran Khan was incarcerated on August 5 after being found guilty in the Toshakhana case, which relates to alleged failures in disclosing gifts received during his time in government.
Expressing concerns about her husband's safety in prison, Bushra Bibi's petition highlighted the possibility of harm through food tampering. She emphasized that her husband was not receiving the entitlements mentioned in the prison manual.
According to the jail manual, the PTI chief should have access to amenities such as a TV, newspapers, servants, a mattress, a chair, and a table. Bushra Bibi argued that this treatment was inhumane and violated Articles 9 and 14 of the Constitution. She urged the IHC to intervene and ensure that proper facilities were provided to her husband in jail.
