ICELAND: Iceland Premier Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson tendered resignation after massive protests over Panama Leaks.
Agricultural Minister Sigurdur Ingi said “The Prime Minister told in the (his party’s) parliamentary group meeting that he would step down as prime minster and I will take over.”
Gunnlaugsson faced massive protest in the country after leak of more than 11 million documents by Panamian law firm Mossack Fonesca.
Gunnlaugson is the first person who suffered from the Panama Documents leak.
US Department of Justice and other investigation institutes are taking keen interest in Panama Leaks.
US DOJ official said “We are aware of the reports and are viewing them. While we cannot comment on the specifics of these alleged documents, the US Department of Justice takes them very seriously all credible allegation of high level, foreign corruption that might have a link to the US or US financial system.”
The Panama scandal consists of 11.5 million secret documents having record of off-shore tax havens based in more than 200 countries which includes 214,488 entities, 12 current or former country leaders and 29 billionaires named in Forbes Magazine.
