ISLAMABAD: Israeli occupation forces continued their aggression in Gaza andsouthern Lebanon on Thursday, killing at least seven Palestinians anddemolishing four residential buildings in direct violation of the recentlyagreed ceasefire terms. Palestinian health authorities and local sourcesconfirmed the renewed military operations barely days after the fragiletruce came into effect.
The majority of the casualties were reported from the southern Gaza city ofRafah, where Israeli ground and air units conducted multiple raidstargeting residential neighbourhoods. Witnesses said tank shells and dronestrikes hit crowded areas, resulting in the immediate martyrdom of sevencivilians, including women and children. Four multi-storey buildings werecompletely destroyed, leaving dozens of families homeless.
In a statement, the Israeli military claimed that one of those killed was asenior Hamas field commander, though no evidence was presented to supportthe assertion. The Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant reiterated thatmilitary pressure on Gaza would continue “with full force” until allIsraeli objectives, including the elimination of Hamas governance, wereachieved.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza reported that since theceasefire officially began last week, Israeli forces have killed 360Palestinians and wounded more than 900 others. The ministry stressed thatthe overall death toll since 7 October 2023 has now exceeded 70,000, withthe majority being women and children. In southern Lebanon, cross-borderartillery exchanges caused additional material damage but no new fatalitieswere reported overnight.
International observers have warned that repeated ceasefire violations riskcollapsing the agreement brokered by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States.The United Nations called for immediate restraint and full adherence to thetruce terms.
