ISLAMABAD: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR)Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry on Thursday declared that thecurrent wave of internal terrorism and destabilisation revolves around asingle individual whose personal ambitions have surpassed the interests ofthe state and who operates on the principle of “if not me, then nothing”.

Addressing a detailed press conference at General Headquarters inRawalpindi, the military spokesman said the narrative being propagated bythis individual has now become a serious threat to national security. Heemphasised that the armed forces needed to highlight how this narrative wasfunctioning and being weaponised against the state.

Lieutenant General Chaudhry categorically stated that Pakistan’s armedforces represent the entire country and not any linguistic, ethnic orpolitical ideology. He pointed out that personnel from every province, every language and every region serve in the military, adding that soldiersand officers from middle and lower-middle class backgrounds continue tosacrifice their lives for the defence of Pakistan.

The DG ISPR underlined that the armed forces remain an inclusive nationalinstitution where recruitment and service are based on merit and patriotismrather than regional or political affiliations. He warned that any attemptto portray the military as representing a particular segment of society waspart of a deliberate campaign to weaken the state.

The press conference comes amid heightened political tensions and a surgein terrorist activities in parts of the country. Military officials haverepeatedly accused certain political elements of indirectly supportinganti-state narratives that ultimately benefit terrorist organisations.

Analysts believe the military’s unusually direct language signals growingconcern over the convergence of political rhetoric and security threats ata time when Pakistan is battling multiple internal and external challenges.

The armed forces have urged all citizens and institutions to recognise thegravity of narratives that place individual or group interests above thestate, stressing that national unity remains the only bulwark against bothterrorism and destabilisation.
