Afghan National Army ANA on brink of losing Helmand Province

KABUL: Resurgent Taliban on brink of seizing control in Helmand. Demoralised Afghan forces were on the verge of collapse across swathes of the key southern province of Helmand in recent weeks, and only the return of foreign troops and airstrikes prevented a Taliban rout .

A year after the last British soldiers left Helmand, handing over security for the province to Afghan forces, many of the areas they fought for are back in the hands of the insurgents, with local units barely able to defend themselves, let alone recapture lost territory. (The Times)
