IMF makes new demands from the Pakistan government

The negotiations between the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and theInternational Monetary Fund (IMF) has been revealed. According to sources,the IMF has put forth a demand to expand the taxpayer base. The FederalBoard of Revenue (FBR) has provided assurances to the visiting IMF teamthat they will meet the tax collection target of Rs 9,415 billion for thecurrent year.

Additionally, the IMF has requested a progress report on pending tax casesfrom the FBR, which is expected to be submitted on Monday. Officials havereported that Pakistan has collected Rs 2,748 billion in the first fourmonths of the ongoing fiscal year.

Furthermore, the IMF has asked for a plan outlining how the remaining Rs6,670 billion will be collected by June 2024.

In their discussions, FBR officials made extensive efforts to persuade thevisiting IMF review mission that they have the capability to achieve thedesired revenue collection target of Rs 9.4 trillion by the end of June2024.
