KABUL – The US Major killed in Kabul on Saturday had been the mayor ofNorth Ogden in Utah.
According to the New York Times, Maj. Brent Taylor, had taken leave fromhis position to serve with the Utah National Guard in Afghanistan and hadbeen part of an advisory team training staff in an Afghan commandobattalion in Kabul.
The New York Times quoted Debra Richardson, a NATO spokeswoman, in Kabul,as saying that the gunman appeared to have been a member of the AfghanNational Defense and Security Forces.

“The attacker was immediately killed by other Afghan forces,” she said.
