IHC verdict on Bushra Bibi s petition seeking protection for husband in jail

The Islamabad High Court has postponed the hearing of a petition filed byformer Prime Minister and PTI chief’s wife, Bushra Bibi, seeking enhancedsecurity for her husband while in Adiala Jail until next week.

IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq presided over the hearing. Bushra Bibi’sattorney, Latif Khosa, requested the court’s permission for her to provideher husband with homemade meals while in jail. He explained that the PTIchief was held in a cell that made it challenging for him to offer hisprayers.

Khosa mentioned the historical precedent of former presidents and primeministers being imprisoned in Adiala or Attock Jail after their tenures.The IHC chief justice assured that he would take every possible action,including issuing a court order, to address the matter.

The hearing was adjourned until the following week as notices were issuedto concerned parties. Imran Khan was incarcerated on August 5 after beingfound guilty in the Toshakhana case, which relates to alleged failures indisclosing gifts received during his time in government.

Expressing concerns about her husband’s safety in prison, Bushra Bibi’spetition highlighted the possibility of harm through food tampering. Sheemphasized that her husband was not receiving the entitlements mentioned inthe prison manual.

According to the jail manual, the PTI chief should have access to amenitiessuch as a TV, newspapers, servants, a mattress, a chair, and a table.Bushra Bibi argued that this treatment was inhumane and violated Articles 9and 14 of the Constitution. She urged the IHC to intervene and ensure thatproper facilities were provided to her husband in jail.
