PM Kakar makes important decision over PIA s future

A high-level meeting took place in Islamabad today, focusing on the futureof Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). Caretaker Prime MinisterAnwaar-ul-Haq Kakar presided over the session.

During this meeting, the participants received a comprehensive briefing onthe performance of PIA and issued a significant directive regarding thesubmission of a restructuring plan to the Economic Coordination Committee.

Prime Minister Kakar emphasized PIA’s pivotal role as a nationalinstitution during the session, highlighting its history of providing airservices and achieving a global reputation. He also stressed the immediateneed for enhancing air connectivity between remote regions and major citiesacross the country.

In an effort to improve customer satisfaction, the interim prime ministercalled for PIA flight schedules to be tailored to passengers’ convenience.Furthermore, he urged both PIA’s management and the Aviation Division towork tirelessly to restore the airline to its former glory.

A crucial outcome of the meeting was the directive to submit acomprehensive plan outlining PIA’s restructuring to the EconomicCoordination Committee. This directive underscores the government’scommitment to revitalizing the national carrier and ensuring its long-termsustainability.

The meeting also noted recent amendments to the PIA Act of 2016, whichhave opened the door for a potential overhaul of the airline.

Caretaker Federal Minister for Finance Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, Adviser to theCaretaker Prime Minister for Aviation Air Marshal (Retired) Farhat Hussain,Advisor to the Caretaker Prime Minister Ahad Cheema, and other seniorgovernment officials also attended the meeting.
