The captain of the national team, Babar Azam, has set a unique record inPakistan’s 50-year history of One Day International (ODI) cricket. In thematch against Nepal in the Asia Cup, Babar Azam played a splendid inningsof 151 runs against Nepal, which was the second-highest score in his ODIcareer, surpassing 150. He is the only captain in Pakistan’s 50-year ODIcricket history to have scored more than 150 runs as captain twice. Priorto this, in 2021, he played his best innings of 158 runs against England.
Before Babar Azam, the honor of playing the best innings for Pakistan ascaptain belonged to Shoaib Malik, who scored 125 not out against India inKarachi in June 2008.
Former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq had scored 123 runs against India in Lahorein March 2004. Babar Azam set a record of the lowest individual score in acentury by playing a century against Nepal in the Asia Cup, scoring 19centuries.
At the age of 28, Babar Azam scored his 19th century in his 102nd inningsof his career. Previously, this honor belonged to South African batsmanHashim Amla, who scored his 19th century in his 104th innings. Virat Kohliis third on this list, having scored 19 centuries in 124 innings, followedby David Warner with 19 centuries in 139 innings, and AB de Villiers with19 centuries in 171 innings. Rohit Sharma is in sixth place with 19centuries in 181 innings.
Babar Azam had previously become the first player to score 18 centuries inless than 100 innings, achieving the feat in his 97th innings. Before that,he had scored the 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries, all with thefewest innings among the players. Babar Azam scored his initial 10centuries in 68 innings, but the next 9 centuries were scored in just 34innings.
