Indian PM Modi request made to Malaysian PM Mahathir Mohammad likely to be rejected

NEW DELHI – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi request made to MalaysianPM Mahathir Mohammad over extradition of Islamic preacher Zakir Naek islikely to be rejected.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Malaysian PM Mahathir bin Mohamadmet on the sidelines of Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok during whichthe former raised the issue of Zakir Naik.

Foreign secretary Vijay Gokhale, “PM Modi raised the issue of Zakir Naikand both sides decided that officials will keep in touch regarding it andits an important issue for New Delhi”

New Delhi has sent an extradition request to the country but no action hasbeen taken by Kuala Lumpur.

India born Zakir Naik is wanted in India and is known for his hatespeeches. In 2017 India had revoked his passport and declared him as anoffender. He currently resides in Malaysia which has given him aPR-Permanent Resident status.
