Former Chief of NDS makes stunning revelations over links of President Ashraf Ghani with Haqqani Network

KABUL – Former Chief of National Directorate of Security makes stunningrevelations over links of President Ashraf Ghani with Haqqani Network inAfghanistan.

The ex-chief of Afghanistan’s intelligence agency and presidentialcandidate Rahmatullah Nabil said that President Ghani’s team was in contactwith Haqqani network during the 2014 presidential elections, therefore, helater amended a provision of the criminal code that was modifying the deathpenalty.

In a televised interview with TOLOnews, Mr. Nabil said the arrest of AnasHaqqani, one of the masterminds of Haqqani network, had angered some peoplein the national unity government.

“In the second round [of 2014 presidential election], some sort ofrelations were created between Dr. Ashraf Ghani’s team and Haqqani[network] because the elections went for a second round and there wereserious and different discussions and even the Taliban later confessed thatthey had some type of understandings and I heard some credible words thatthey had cooperated with a certain team,” Mr. Nabil said.

“When Anas Haqqani was arrested, some friends in the national unitygovernment were a little depressed that why it happened like this,” Mr.Nabil added. “There were letter exchanges and Siraj Haqqani had expressedhis disappointment that we supported you and you arrested my brother.”

He said that “there is evidence [about it] at the National Directorate ofSecurity”.
