ISLAMABAD – Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has underscored the needto reset Pakistan-US ties on the basis of mutual trust and respect.
He was leading Pakistan delegation at talks with the US delegation led bySecretary of State Mike Pompeo in Islamabad this afternoon.
The two sides held discussions on bilateral and regional and internationalissues.
Pakistan Foreign Minister said safeguarding of national interests wouldremain supreme priority of the Government.
Radio Pakistan’s correspondent says Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshiwould be briefing newsmen on talks this evening.
US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo is having a meeting with PrimeMinister Imran Khan in Islamabad.
Earlier, the US Secretary of State arrived in Islamabad and was received atairport by official of the Foreign Ministry and US Embassy.
Talking to newsmen prior to leaving for Islamabad in Washington, MikePompeo said his country wants improvement in relationship with Pakistan.
He said Pakistan and the United States will have to make joint efforts todeal with common challenges.
The US Secretary of State is also accompanied by Chairman US Joint Chiefsof Staff General Joseph Dunford.
The American delegation will hold talks with Foreign Minister Shah MehmoodQureshi and his team.
The US officials are also scheduled to hold meetings with senior politicaland military leadership on bilateral relations and regional security.
