Supreme Court refuses to summon former Ambassador in US Asad Majeed to testify

*The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday heard for the third consecutiveday the suo moto notice and various petitions over the “constitutionalsituation” that developed following the National Assembly deputy speaker’sruling to disallow a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister ImranKhan.*

Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial said that the court will try to give averdict on the deputy speaker’s ruling by tomorrow (Wednesday) because theissue was holding up the formation of a caretaker government.

The chief justice also said that the court will only focus on the deputyspeaker’s ruling as it cannot interfere in matters of state and foreignpolicy.

At the start of the hearing, Advocate Afshan Ghazanfar pleaded with thebench that Pakistan’s former ambassador to Washington, Asad Majeed, who hadsent the communique containing the alleged warning to remove Imran Khan, besummoned before the court.

Chief Justice Bandial said that it was not possible as the court was notpresently hearing any petition from an individual and will hear onlypolitical parties. The court rejected the petition from Advocate Afshan.
