*ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has refutedmedia reports of issuing any statement regarding general elections.*
In a statement on Tuesday, the ECP said that it hasn’t issued any statementto media, expressing its inability to conduct general elections withinthree months.
Earlier the Dawn News carried a statement attributed to the ECP saying thatit was not possible for the Commission to hold general elections in 90 daystime frame.
The Dawn News said that according to a Senior Official of the ECP, various‘legal hitches and procedural challenges’ were the reasons for the ECP torequire six months for making preparations for the polls.
“Fresh delimitation of constituencies, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwawhere the number of seats had been increased under the 26th Amendment, andbringing district- and constituency-wise electoral rolls in conformity werethe major challenges,” the daily reported citing the ECP Official.
