ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has arrested Abdul Rauf Asghar, the brother ofJaish-e-Mohammad chief Maulana Masood Azhar.
Pakistan has arrested 44 persons affiliated with multiple banned terroristorganisations including Mufti Abdul Rauf Asghar, brother of JeM chiefMasood Azhar and Hammad Azhar, who is Masood Azhar’s brother-in-law. Bothare in protective custody.
The news was announced by Pakistan Interior minister Shaharyar Afridi in apress conference. The move comes after Pakistan had assured theinternational community that it will take strict action against terror.
Pakistan has said their names were in the dossier given by India toPakistan. Pakistani interior ministry secretary said if no evidence isbrought up against them, they will be released.
According to interior minister Shaharyar Afridi, the militants have beendetained for a period of two weeks.
Pakistani officials insisted this was not done under pressure from Indiabut was based on the decision taken by the National Action Plan committee.Pakistan assured the action would be taken against all proscribedorganizations.
