Pakistan makes strong appeal at the United Nations against India over Occupied Kashmir

NEW YORK – Ambassador Munir Akram called on the United Nations and theworld community to take steps to execute the U.N. resolutions that grantedthe Kashmiri people the right to decide their future through UN-supervisedplebiscite.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations underscored the need forsettlement of the lingering Kashmir dispute. UN and the internationalcommunity have a responsibility to help resolve the Jammu and Kashmirdispute.

Kashmir is the beating heart of Pakistan. The ‘K’ in Pakistan stands forKashmir. The idea of Pakistan is incomplete without it. The people ofPakistan have always stood resolutely with their Kashmir brethren againstIndian oppression and aggression, he added in a message on KashmirSolidarity Day.

At the heart of the dispute is India’s illegal occupation and persistentrefusal to allow the people of Kashmir to exercise their inalienable rightto self-determination, he said in an opinion piece, ‘Danger in Jammu andKashmir’.

He added that the deployment of at least 900,000 Indian soldiers has turnedthe valley into the most militarized territory in the world. New Delhi hasabrogated all fundamental rights and freedoms of the Kashmiris; imposedcrippling curfews and communications blackouts; detained the legitimateKashmiri leadership; killed, maimed, and tortured thousands of innocentpeople and devised sinister designs to turn occupied Kashmir from aMuslim-majority state into a Hindu-dominated territory.
