US Army Chief arrived in Afghanistan

KABUL – Mark Alexander Milley, the Chief of Staff of the US Army arrived inAfghanistan for talks over Afghanistan peace.

He met with President Ashraf Ghani and some of his cabinet ministers inKabul on Thursday.

Presidential Palace said in a statement that in this meeting, the two sidesdiscussed the “positive impacts” of the US strategy on Afghanistan andSouth Asia, an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process and plans formoving the country towards self-reliance, TOLO News has reported.

According to the statement, President Ghani said in the meeting that theAfghan government has taken required reform plans on hand and that it ismoving in the right direction.

The statement has not given more details about this meeting which comesamid reports about a possible withdrawal of a “significant” number of UStroops from Afghanistan.

There are at least 14,000 forces in Afghanistan who are engaged incounterterror as well as train and advise mission for their Afghancounterparts.
