US Airstrike in Afghanistan kills at least 10 civilians

KABUL – Residents of Faryab province, in the north of Afghanistan, onFriday claimed that at least 10 civilians were killed and four otherswounded in an airstrike in Jawzjan’s Darzab district, TOLO News hasreported.

The residents claimed that the airstrike was carried out by foreign forces.

The Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan has yet to confirm theairstrike.

The residents said they went to Jawzjan to mediate the release of an imamwho was taken hostage by Daesh and was under custody in Qari Hekmatullah, adesignated commander of Daesh, house in the area, which was targeted by theairstrike.

The residents claimed that the imam was abducted from Faryab’s Shirin Tagabdistrict and was taken to Jawzjan.

At least 14 people from Shirin Tagab and Darzab districts went to meetHekmatullah to secure the release of the imam.

Those wounded in the alleged airstrike said Daesh militants were alsokilled in the airstrike.

“After sitting in the room and drinking tea, the ceiling collapsed and wedid not realize what happened next. We had went there for mediation. Fourpeople have been wounded and 10 others killed,” Akbar, a resident ofFaryab, who sustained injuries in the incident, said.

“It is not good that they have attacked us,” Sharif, another resident ofFaryab said.

This is not the first airstrike that leaves civilians dead and wounded.

The United Nations office in Afghanistan recently said the number ofcivilian fatalities has increased following the rise in airstrikes.

Faryab officials have not commented on the report so far.
