Afghan deputy governor kidnapped from Peshawar recovered, reaches back home

ISLAMABAD: The deputy governor for eastern Kunar province has been rescuedfrom his kidnappers after three months in captivity, an official said onFriday.

Qazi Mohammad Nabi Ahmadi, a member of the Gulbadin Hekmatyar-ledHezb-i-Islami link>Afghanistanlink>, had been kidnapped fromPeshawar’s Dabgari area on October 28.

Abdul Ghani Musamim, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan Newsthat Ahmadi was freed last night. However, he did not give further details.

Ihsanullah, son of Ahmadi, confirmed his father returned home late onThursday night (11pm). “My father has come home, but there is no clue to myuncle Habibullah.”

Former Afghan ambassador Abdul Khaliq Farahi and ex-governor of KunarFazlullah Wahidi had also been kidnapped in Pakistanlink>. However, they were released later on.

Ahmadi’s relatives and the Afghan consulate in Peshawar had previouslytaken up the matter with Pakistani authorities. Ahmadi had come to Peshawarfor the treatment of a kidney ailment.
