Pakistan praises while India laments the great warrior Tipu Sultan

ISLAMABAD - Glorifying the 18th century Mysore ruler, Pakistan on Friday praised Tipu Sultan on his death anniversary and said that since he was trained in the art of warfare and had a fascination for learning.

Tipu was a ruler of the erstwhile kingdom of Mysore, and is considered by some historians to be an implacable enemy of the British East India Company. He was killed in May 1799 while defending his fort of Srirangapatna against the British forces.

"Revisiting an important and influential historical figure, Tiger of Mysore - Tipu Sultan on his death anniversary. Right from his early years, he was trained in the art of warfare and had a fascination for learning," Twitted the official hand of the government of Pakistan.

Calling Tipu Sultan a 'Tiger of Mysore', Pakistan also tweeted a poster describing him as mentioned below.

"Tipu Sultan (20 November 1750 - 4 May 1799) He was a ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore and the eldest son of Sultan Hyder Ali of Mysore"

Tipu Sultan introduced a number of administrative innovations including his coinage

► New Mauludi lunisolar calendar

► Land revenue system which initiates the growth of the Mysore silk industry

► His personal library consisted of more than 2,000 books in different languages

Last year, President Ram Nath Kovind had hailed Tipu Sultan, saying he died a heroic death fighting the British, remarks that came in the backdrop of protests by the BJP in Karnataka against his glorification.‏

There had been a hue and cry over Tipu Sultan's celebration last year.

Last year, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah had hit out at BJP chief Amit Shah for attacking his government for celebrating ‘Tipu Jayanti’.

"We celebrate birthdays of 26 leaders & builders of #NavaKarnataka. @AmitShah in a desperate attempt to communalise, picks on Tipu Jayanthi," Siddaramaiah said in a tweet.

"Election is coming! It brings tourists like @AmitShah who display ignorance about our state & call #KannadaRajyotsava as 'Karnatak Mahotsav'," he claimed.
