ISLAMABAD - The bowling duo of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, famously called The two W’s, were considered probably the greatest bowling pairs of all time. But we wonder what made them so effective on the field?
Their success secret was revealed by none other than the one half of the famous pair, Waqar, who revealed that the difference of bowling style was the major factor.
“He was a left-armer and I was a right-armer. We were different because we were competing against each other. That’s why it helped the team and it also helped the individuals as well,” said Waqar, quoted the Dhaka Tribune.
Waqar, who at present is serving in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) as the mentor of Sylhet Sixers, added that the ability to swing with pace at both end allowed the Pakistani bowling pair to attain so many wickets.
“I think we were both quick, different and knew how to swing the ball and also reverse swing the ball. Everything was perfect for us. Both of us were in very good rhythm. We had a good chunk of eight-10 years together for Pakistan cricket and we did our best in our time,” Waqar added.
