In response to Pakistan’s decision to expel illegal Afghan refugees, theUnited States (US) has issued a statement. During a daily press briefing,State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel expressed that Pakistan has beena crucial partner for the US in aiding the resettlement of Afghanindividuals seeking refuge. Pakistan has played a significant role in thisprocess.
The State Department spokesperson conveyed the US’s deep concern regardingthe allegations mentioned by Prime Minister Trudeau. He emphasized theimportance of Canada’s investigation progressing and the responsibleindividuals being held accountable. The US has consistently urged theIndian government, both publicly and privately, to cooperate with theCanadian investigation.
Yesterday, the caretaker federal government of Pakistan established adeadline of November 1 for illegal immigrants to leave the country, underthe threat of deportation. Sarfaraz Bugti also announced the formation of atask force to take action against illegal immigrants, highlightingPakistan’s unique policy of allowing entry even without a passport.Additionally, the interior minister mentioned the confiscation of assetsbelonging to illegal immigrants and the establishment of a web portal forreporting smuggling-related illegal activities.
