On Tuesday, the US Secretary of Defense, Lloyd J. Austin III, had a phoneconversation with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, toengage in discussions regarding regional peace. This communication wasconfirmed through a press release by Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder, the PentagonPress Secretary, where Secretary Austin and General Asim Munir addressedvarious topics of shared interest, including recent regional developments.
This interaction occurred shortly after Islamabad established a deadlinefor the deportation of illegal foreign nationals within the country due toescalating concerns related to terrorism and smuggling.
In a meeting of the Apex Committee, COAS General Asim Munir, interim PrimeMinister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, and others reached the decision to expelthese illegal immigrants.
During a subsequent press conference in Islamabad, the caretaker interiorminister, Sarfraz Bugti, emphasized that the immigrants have until November1 to leave the country, highlighting Pakistan’s unique policy of allowingentry to individuals without passports.
