Two civilians, including a 12-year-old, lost their lives in an incident ofindiscriminate firing by Afghan forces directed at the civilian populationnear an outbound checkpoint along the Pak-Afghan border in Balochistan, asconfirmed by the deputy commissioner of Chaman.
The bodies of the child and the elderly pedestrian were subsequentlytransported to the District Headquarters Hospital and later returned totheir respective families. The deputy commissioner of Chaman also mentionedthat security forces were placed on high alert, yet no exchange of gunfireoccurred between them.
He further stated that there is currently a ceasefire in effect, with theborder crossing open at the Friendship Gate. Nevertheless, pedestrianmovement was briefly halted. The officials have reported this incident tohigher authorities and plan to discuss it with the interim AfghanGovernment.
