In Pakistan’s Punjab province, law enforcement agencies have successfullythwarted a significant terrorist plot through the apprehension of sevensuspected terrorists, including two prominent ISIL commanders, as revealedby the police on Monday.
These individuals were taken into custody by the Counter TerrorismDepartment (CTD) of the Punjab police during a series ofintelligence-driven operations conducted in various districts of theprovince.
According to the CTD spokesperson, a total of 49 intelligence-basedoperations were carried out throughout the province, resulting in thearrest of seven suspected terrorists associated with Tehreek-e-TalibanPakistan and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, which included two high-ranking ISIScommanders. Notably, both of these commanders had been operating withinPunjab.
The spokesperson highlighted that these arrested terrorists had devisedplans to target significant installations and various locations throughoutthe province, posing a substantial threat to security.
Law enforcement authorities have taken decisive action by registering sixcases against the apprehended individuals. Moreover, they have seized acache of materials, including 3,100 grams of explosives, 14 detonators, 10feet of protective fuse wire, prohibited literature, cell phones, and cashfrom the suspects.
This recent operation follows the earlier arrest of five female ISILterrorists in Lahore and Sheikhupura within the Punjab province. It is partof a broader effort to combat terrorism, as demonstrated by the CTD’sapprehension of over 20 terrorists associated with banned organizations invarious areas of Punjab last month.
