ISLAMABAD – Pakistani dramas used to be watched with great interest notjust in Pakistan, but across the border and far corners of the world aswell. However, that is changing and it is all attributable to thedeteriorating quality of our dramas, says PEMRA in an advice to allentertainment channels.
The regulatory authority issued the statement on Monday to allentertainment tv channels advising them to stick to the standards ofdecency.
The watchdog has told the channels about the increasing number ofcomplaints regarding the contents of dramas, complaining that the dramas nolonger portray the Pakistani society. The bold plots and themes representalien cultures, showing a fictional society thus wrongly influencing theviewers.
Not just this, the ethical, social, cultural and religious values of thePakistani society are being openly ignored all the while adding unnecessaryglamour. The violence, exploitation, extramarital relations, lewd dialoguesand bold scenes are becoming more and more prevalent in our dramas and theaudience is finding it tough to watch these dramas with their families.
Above all, these dramas are ignoring the PEMRA laws.
All TV channels are required to endure their corporate socialresponsibility and produce such content which is strictly in line with thePakistani culture, standards of deceny and PEMRA laws.
The drama industry needs to regain the interest of the viewers and come upwith dramas like the ones which used to be watched by kids and eldersalike, depicting the true picture of Pakistani society instead ofenvisioning a society which has no conformance with everyday Pakistani life.
