KABUL – Afghan government seek explanation from Washington over USPresident Donald Trump’s remarks on Afghanistan.
The Afghan government had asked Washington to provide clarity on Trump’sremarks on Afghanistan, TOLO News has reported.
US President Donald Trump has said that the US “could win that war veryeasily”.
“I could win that war in a week if I wanted to but I’m not looking to kill10 million people,” he reiterated. “Many of them would be innocent people,I’m not looking to do and I’m not talking nuclear by the way.”
Trump said he is not talking totally conventional, but he is not looking tokill millions of people in Afghanistan.
Trump made similar remarks late last month, but his statement was stronglycriticized by Afghan political elite and members of the public.
The US has been engaged in negotiating a peace deal with the Taliban sincelast September. The last round of US-Taliban talks began in Doha onSaturday with US Special Envoy Zalmay Khalilzad saying that the UnitedStates is ready for a “good deal” with the Taliban.
