Pakistan a stakeholder in Occupied Kashmir: Mehmooba Mufti

*SRINAGAR, JUNE 04 (PTK): *PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said theKashmir is a political problem needing a political redressal by involvingall “stakeholders” including Pakistan. She also accused Union Home MinisterAmit Shah of resorting to “brute force” to “quick fix” the problem, which,she said, would be “ridiculously naive”.

Describing Pakistan as a “stakeholder” in “Kashmir problem” and batting forinvolving it too to solve the tangle, the former Jammu and Kashmir ChiefMinister took to Twitter and wrote, “Since 1947, Kashmir has been lookedthrough the prism of security by successive governments. It’s a politicalproblem that needs a political redressal by involving all stakeholdersincluding Pakistan.”

“Expecting a quick fix through brute force by newly appointed HM isridiculously naive,” she added attacking Union Minister Amit Shah who tookstock of the country’s internal security situation at a meeting in NewDelhi. During the meeting, the Union Home minister was apprised of thesituation in Jammu and Kashmir too, particularly in its border areas.

However, soon after Mufti’s tweet, BJP’s newly elected parliamentarianGautam Gambhir slammed her on Twitter for attacking Shah. Gambhir tweeted,”While I am all for a talk-based solution to Kashmir problem but forMehbooba Mufti to term Amit Shah’s process as ‘brute’ is ‘ridiculouslynaive’. History has been witness to our patience and endurance. But ifoppression ensures security for my people, then so be it.”

Amit Shah yesterday took stock of country’s internal security situation,continuing the tradition of regularly getting first-hand information fromtop security officials, including National Security Adviser Ajit Doval,officials said. Shah was given a detailed briefing on the prevailingsecurity situation in the country by Doval, Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba,Intelligence Bureau chief Rajiv Jain, besides others. Apart from thehinterland, the home minister was apprised of on the situation in Jammu andKashmir, particularly in border areas, an official said.

Holding a security review meeting regularly by the home minister has been atradition since long and such a deliberation gives an overall impression onlatest internal security situation of the country.

While the secretary of the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW), who alsoattends this meeting, gives an overview on India’s neighbourhood, thedirector of the Intelligence Bureau briefs on internal intelligence inputs,the official said.

Getting first-hand information from top security brass is helpful for thehome minister to articulate views and take policy decision, anotherofficial said. (PTK)
