*WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States Dr Asad Majeed Khansaid that the United Nations sanctions on Jaish-e-Mohammed Chief MasoodAzhar will not affect the relations between the US and Pakistan. *
“We want good relations with US,” Dr Majeed said. “Pakistan is againstterrorism and we are taking steps to curb terrorism in the countryaccording to the National Action Plan.”
“Those steps are not to make anyone happy but it is for our own need,” heasserted.
The Pakistani ambassador noted that the statements of US President DonaldTrump from the last two months show that he has spoken good things aboutPakistan.
“Zalmay Khalilzad and General McKenzie recently visited Pakistan and talksbetween the two countries are continuing at a bilateral level,” he added.
On May 1, the UN Security Council (UNSC) 1267 Committee listed MaulanaMasood Azhar, placing a ban on immediate basis which entails restrictionon foreign travel, arms embargo and freezing of assets.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal had said listing of MaulanaMasood Azhar on UN sanctions Committee had been agreed after all politicalreferences, including removing of attempts to link it with Pulwama incidentand maligning Kashmiris struggle for their right to self-determination.
