*ISLAMABAD: The name of Dr Raza Baqir has been on the top of the list ofcandidates after State Bank of Pakistan governor Tariq Bajwa tendered hisresignation from the high office of the central bank.*
Dr Raza Baqir is presently serving as the International Monetary Fund’sresident director for Egypt.
Dr Baqir has also served as the IMF mission chief for Romania and Bulgariaand worked at the IMF for over 16 years apart of working at at the WorldBank and other international monetary institutions.
According to reports names of, Ashfaque Hassan Khan, Dr Waqar Masood and DrWajid Rana also being tipped for the State Bank top office.
Dr Ashfaque Hassan is a member of the government’s Economic AdvisoryCouncil and the principal and dean of the School of Social Sciences andHumanities at NUST.
According to sources, the matter has been at the consultation level and afinal decision yet to made.
