General (R) Raheel Sharif will never act against Iran : Tehmina Janjua

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua has said that Islamabad is committed to its policy of non-interference in the conflicts of Muslim countries. She clarified that Saudi-led military alliance is not against any country.

According to our correspondent, the Foreign Secretary has assured the National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs that General Raheel Sharif will not act against Iran as the head of the military alliance.

The committee, today, discussed the issue of clearance given to former army chief retired General Raheel Sharif to lead the Saudi-led 39-nation Islamic military alliance.

The committee also discussed Pakistan’s relations with Saudi Arabia and Iran.

“The Islamic [military] alliance is against terrorism, not any [specific] country,” Janjua said in response to a question by committee chairman Awais Leghari.

She was addressing concerns that Islamabad’s decision to send the former army chief to lead the alliance will complicate the already fraught Pak-Iran ties.

Tehmina Janjua ruled out any change in Pakistan’s policy regarding Iran, Yemen and Saudi Arabia. She said Pakistan is trying to reduce tension between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Tehmina Janjua said Pakistan and Iran enjoy cordial and brotherly relations and have no border dispute between them. She said trade with Iran will touch new heights after easing of international sanctions from Iran.
