Lt General (R) Nazir Ahmed appointed as new Chairman NAB

ISLAMABAD – The federal government on Saturday appointed Lt Gen retiredNazir Ahmed as new chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB)days after Aftab Sultan resigned from the post.

The Ministry of Law and Justice has issued a notification in this regardwith reports suggested that the appointment had been made by the federalgovernment after a consensus between the prime minister and the oppositionleader.

The appointment has been made for the period of three years.

Nazir Ahmed Butt has served as the 30th president of the National DefenceUniversity from April 2016 to December 2016. He also served as Pakistan’smilitary attaché in the US, and military secretary to the prime minister ofPakistan.

The recipient of Hilal e Imtiaz was commissioned in the 40 Frontier ForceRegiment, Pakistan Army in 1983. He graduated from the Command and StaffCollege, and the National Defence University, Pakistan.

Prior to his appointment as commander of the Peshawar Corps in December2016, he served as commander of the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) inaddition to commanding an infantry division in the then FederallyAdministered Tribal Areas (FATA).
