ISLAMABAD: The parliament’s National Security Committee meeting is underwayin the federal capital to take stock of the situation in light of USPresident Donald J. Trump’s statements against Pakistan.
Speaker of the National Assembly, Ayaz Sadiq is presiding over thecommittee’s meeting.
“We need to demonstrate unity on the issue of National Security,” stressedAyaz Sadiq.
The recommendations of the National Security Committee’s meeting would besent to the federal government for approval.
Senior officials of the Foreign Ministry will also brief the NationalSecurity Committee on the ongoing crisis pertaining to Donald Trump’sstatement.
Donald Trump’s first tweet from 2018 was directed towards Pakistan in whichthe president slammed the country for its ‘lies and deceit’.
“The United States has foolishly given Pakistan more than 33 billiondollars in aid over the last 15 years, and they have given us nothing butlies & deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools. They give safe haven tothe terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. No more!” hetweeted on January 1, 2018.
Pakistan protested strongly against Trump’s tirade, telling the UnitedStates to refrain from blaming the country for its failure to promote peacein Afghanistan.
Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal warned the United States on Wednesday not tomeddle with Pakistan’s peace and reminded the country how it had leftPakistan alone in the midst of extremists after claiming the credit for itsvictory against the Soviet Union.
